There are always fascinating people to come across when visiting Starbucks. Today’s fascinating person is currently a crossing guard who aspires to be a cop. He came in over an hour ago with all of his crossing guard regalia. This includes the stop sign, whistle, and safety vest. Within moments he had set himself up on a table with a laptop and burrito. At first glance, it seemed like a guy who was about to do what I’m doing… enjoy a cup of coffee while working on a computer.

Things are never quite what they seem though. As soon as he was set up, he started to turn to whoever was closest into the store and asking what they were doing. This wasn’t really to find out what they were doing, however. Instead, it was so he could then say “I’m here to study for my test tomorrow to get into the Sheriff’s academy.”  This happened with multiple people, with a few questions peppered in. For me, it was asking what I was studying. He seemed appeased when I told him I was just reading. Another person heard about how far he had walked, where he lived, and where he was walking to next. Oh, he won’t need to do this tomorrow though.

Fast forward to over an hour later. He has been on FaceTime for at least an hour now. During this time he has brought up the fact that he is here to study for his exam tomorrow multiple times. He has yet to start studying, however. I’m also curious how much more time he has to study. If he truly is a crossing guard, school is out in about an hour. One would think he would need to do his crossing guard duties for this?

All this to say, people are interesting and entertaining. I wish him the best of luck tomorrow with his exam. I also hope he passes and is able to pursue his dreams. He seems like an incredibly friendly guy, maybe a little bit too friendly for others who want to be productive at Starbucks. However, there are definitely worse things that could happen in the world. It makes for a fun adventure at Starbucks and a smile as I sit here typing away.

On to the next adventure!

UPDATE: He just left. He never studied. He did ask for luck with his exam tomorrow. He may need it…
