Welcome to Adventures at Starbucks, again! We are back and hopefully better than before! This blog was started nearly a decade ago as I observed so many fun and random things that happened at Starbucks while I frequented there. Through the years I continued to document different adventures I saw happening as I sat at my table at Starbucks. However, as so often happens, life got in the way.
As we have continued to build our different websites and ventures, Adventures at Starbucks got lost for a time. This was a time with new web hosts, new projects, and sadly no new time. Because of this, the original site fell by the wayside. When we transferred to a new host, Adventures at Starbucks was left behind… until today.
Today marks the return of Adventures at Starbucks. As we have always done, we will simply observe the adventures that happen in Starbucks around us. For now, it is just me writing these posts. You never know what the future might bring though!
For this return, I will share with you a short story I observed today. An older gentleman shuffled into my local Starbucks this afternoon. He wore plaid, had a backpack, and was mostly unremarkable as he made his way into the store. Initially, I thought he was looking for the power outlets in the store. As he entered the store, his eyes scanned the room as he was clearly looking for something. He took a few steps in my direction where there was a table with an outlet. However then he turned and made his way another direction.
He shuffled over to where the napkins, sugars, and other flavors could be found at a station off to another wall. At this point, I could see where he was but couldn’t see what he was doing. He lingered there for just a few seconds before turning and making his way back to the front door of the store. Looking like he had just won a game, he made his way out of the store…. with a handful of raw sugar.
The last I saw of him he was making his way back to his car. What he needed with a handful of sugar, I really couldn’t tell you. Perhaps he recognized that it was National Chocolate Cake day and he needed sugar to go home and bake a cake? Or maybe he wanted to make some fancy beverage that required sugar along the rim of the glass? Or maybe he was like friends of mine when I was growing up and simply wanted to rip the top of the sugar bags open and eat the sugar right out of the bag. The possibilities really are endless and I’ll never know the true reason for his sugar quest.
What IS known is that it was the first adventure I observed at Starbucks while I was setting this site back up. It seems entirely fitting and proper for it to be the first story shared on this new revamped Adventures at Starbucks! I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy the future adventures shared here!
