It’s been a while since I have posted here. There have been multiple reasons for this. The two main ones, however, are that life has been crazy and there really haven’t been that many insane things happening when I’ve been at Starbucks. Life is still crazy but sometimes you see something happen and it would be a crime not to write about it. That is today.
I’m sitting at a different Starbucks today after traveling for the last couple of weeks. There WERE experiences during my travels that probably could have been worthy of a post. But, I didn’t take the time to stop while I was traveling. As for today’s adventure. I am sitting in the corner of this coffee shop so I can observe the room and also keep my eye on my car as I don’t know the neighborhood that well. About a half hour ago, a grumpy-looking guy with a big showed up and sat at the other end of the room. He had a blue polo shirt on, blue jeans, and a not-so-happy disposition. He was probably in his 50s. He got some pink drink and just sat there for a while.
About ten minutes ago, a lady came in with an equally sour look on her face. She was wearing a t-shirt, zip-up hoodie sweatshirt, and cutoff jean shorts. She carried what looked to be a clear makeup bag and then another bag that was like a lunch bag that was insulated. She also appeared to be in her late 40s probably. She walked into the store sat down, saw the guy, and they spoke for a few seconds. At this point, the guy asked for the code to the restroom. Having received it, he went over to go into the restroom. It didn’t work. He returned to the main counter and asked once again.
Frustrated from his first attempt, he returned to the restroom door to try again. This time, the girl followed. Scowling even more he punched in the numbers to the keypad in an effort to unlock the door. He pushed each button loud enough that I could hear each button he pushed. This time, the happy little beep indicated that the door had unlocked and he dramatically opened it and charged inside. Just before the door closed all the way, the lady grabbed the door and pulled it open. Looking up at me, she glared as she walked into the restroom with him.
The door locked and all went quiet for a minute or two. Then I could hear flushing, water running, and the hand dryer all on apparently at the same time. This happened a couple of times. A few minutes later, the door opened and he stormed out of the restroom with her following behind. They both still looked angry. Neither made eye contact with anyone. They both walked straight to the door and then out and across the parking lot.
What happened in that restroom, I have no clue. It’s probably better not to know. However, it was amusing to watch the dynamics between the two of them and their way of largely communicating without words. It also was fun to watch the story play out right before my eyes. While this may not have been the craziest thing to ever happen at a Starbucks, it was interesting and a bit weird. It also was a glimpse into a very different way of life. I will definitely be watching for more interesting stories and Adventures at Starbucks as this one definitely sparked my inspiration once again to post here.
On to the next adventure!
