It has been a very long time but the adventures are back! Today is the first day in over a year that I have sat in a Starbucks to work. Unsurprisingly, an adventure happened while I sat here. I had frankly forgotten about these until the moment it happened. Within moment, I was loading up Adventures at Starbucks and now I’m writing.

I was sitting here working away responding to email when a guy raced into Starbucks out of breath. The barista behind the counter asked if he had a mask he could put on. The guy kept racing towards the counter and she asked again. He suddenly realized what she was asking and with an expletive, covered his face as he reached for his mask. Finally, mask on, he breathlessly asked for a coke or any other soda…. only to be informed they don’t sell those at Starbucks. This mission foiled, he started asking questions about phones… particularly his phone… which didn’t seem to be working.

As it turns out his phone had died and he wanted to take it apart for some reason to try and fix it. Getting this done was imperative so he could call “the office” to check in or whatever. His pace continued to be frantic as he tried to ask the baristas to help with the phone. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, that simply isn’t safe to do. They couldn’t take his phone to help and they couldn’t offer their phones up either. I was his next target. He came over to ask for my help. Unfortunately, I have no clue about Samsung phones… and frankly, I don’t think I could help him take apart an Apple device either. I do know people who could but…. that’s not me.

When nobody in the store could help him, he turned again his attention to the baristas and asked where a Boost Mobile store was. He was given the cross streets for where one was. Then, he asked for the specific street address. He was given this and appeared to write it down on his clipboard he had been carrying. Once done writing, he dashed out to his car.

This is the point where I suddenly recognized that he apparently had been in a rush that started well before he entered the store. I could tell this because he had only pulled halfway into the parking spot and definitely not entirely within the lines. Things got even more interesting as I realized his car wasn’t that young and probably didn’t have onboard GPS… so I’m hoping he has a Thomas Guide in his car to find the street address for Mobile Boost from here.

It’s nice to be back in Starbucks again and get some sense of normalcy… even with some of the not so normal moments. And that’s what makes it so great to have Adventures at Starbucks! It’s good to be back!
